RELATED: Easter Eggs Only Die-Hard Fans Caught In Halo Infinite’s Campaign

That delay has paid off big time because Halo Infinite is one of the best-reviewed games of 2021. That doesn’t mean it is completely perfect. There are still some things in the campaign that could use fixing. Microsoft and 343 Industries aren’t going to abandon this ship anytime soon either. So, these examples should hopefully be a matter of when and not if.

8 Grappleshot Upgrades

There are a few things about the grappleshot that could use some tweaking. Firstly, it doesn’t make a lot of sense that there is a cooldown to use it. There is a way to increase the recharge rate via Spartan cores, but this cooldown rate should be eliminated.

Not being able to use the grappleshot constantly to travel around is the worst part about it. Put abilities, like the stunner, on cooldown. That’s fine for taking out enemies. The length and speed should also be increased.

7 Dual Wielding

One of the coolest things about Halo 2 was the introduction of dual-wielding sidearms. This series has had an on-again, off-again relationship with dual-wielding weapons. Halo Infinite is obviously on the latter side of this feature but it’s not too late.

Players are going to have to shoot through hundreds of aliens to win back Zeta Halo. Giving them two guns would help gameplay feel more exciting. Master Chief is practically begging for this mechanic to come back.

6 Add One More Weapon Slot

If dual-wielding doesn’t come back then the developers should at least consider adding another weapon slot. Since the dawn of this series, Master Chief has only been able to carry two weapons that he can switch with. It didn’t matter what type of gun they were.

Players could have two small handguns, two rifles, mix and match, and so on. It would be nice if there was a separate holster for sidearms, like a pistol, with the other two slots reserved for rifles and the like. This would make taking down enemies faster when alone.

5 Come Back Co-op

The lack of campaign co-op might have been the most upsetting omission from the launch version of Halo Infinite. 343 Industries has said it is coming but the studio hasn’t given a date yet. It could be tomorrow or it could be as late as May 2022, which is the scheduled end of the first season of multiplayer.

It would make sense for the developers to launch a brand new initiatIve following that finale like in June. Hopefully, it doesn’t take that long because the campaign is in dire need of co-op. Not putting it in at launch was disappointing but at least everything else is mostly great.

4 Controlling Marines

The campaign isn’t completely lacking in co-op partners. There are rescue missions designed for players to acquire Marines. These soldiers will occupy bases and can even join the fight if players pilot a vehicle of some sort. There is no way to directly control them via commands though. They will simply do what the AI thinks is best, which is a toss-up.

When these soldiers are in a fight, they are pretty good. When not in a fight, it’s like they are trapped in a paper bag with seemingly no direction in life. A more direct way to issue orders would be a nice fix to see.

3 Revamp Driving Controls

The driving has never been a solid part of this series. Piloting some sort of hovercraft, like the Ghost, feels fine. Even the tanks are okay. However, anything with wheels tends to be an issue.

The Warthog, for example, is not good but it is maneuverable. The Mongoose ATV may as well have out-of-order signs on them because they are too frustrating to control. There is no way to switch control schemes in the options. 343 Industries should either add in the ability to configure the controller more or they need to tweak the physics of driving. Not being able to get to side activities quickly due to poor driving controls can hinder that sense of exploration.

2 Replaying Missions

Halo campaigns are normally short. One of the most fun things players can do after beating these campaigns is to go through them again but on higher difficulty levels. Maybe players just want to replay a certain stage in repeat. The past games had these options for replay but Halo Infinite does not. Plus it is a much longer game as it is open-world.

If co-op gets added in then the ability to replay missions on the map should also be added. This would allow players to re-experience the campaign with a friend, or alone, without having to start a brand new file. Bosses are especially fun to relive.

1 Respec Spartan Cores

Master Chief cannot traditionally level up like the Spartans in multiplayer. There are ways to upgrade some of his functionalities though. Throughout the campaign, players will pick up modules that will grant Master Chief special abilities such as the aforementioned grappleshot and radar that detects all life nearby in 3D.

These modules can then be upgraded further through Spartan cores. Once an ability is upgraded, there is no going back. That is unfortunate. So, a way to respec Master Chief would be appreciated.

Halo Infinite was released on December 8, 2021, and is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
