There are two main issues that can happen with melee attacks—either they hit an opponent but do no damage, or they miss completely even though the player feels certain it should have. Although there were some melee detection fixes deployed in the April Update, these issues have slowly risen to the top of discussion in the Destiny community. Bungie is looking to fix both of those problems soon in a game update.

The “melee update,” as it is being called, will roll out Tuesday, May 10 at 10 a.m. Pacific, under the watchful eye of Bungie. If anything goes wrong, the developer will be ready to roll back the changes immediately. But if all goes right, here’s what will be addressed, according to sandbox engineer Jon Cable:

Fixing the other problem, when a melee misses when it feels like it should hit, is more of a sandbox/design tweak to how melee itself works in Destiny:

Again, the new code will be manually activated by Bungie, so if anything does not work it should be corrected quickly. The week before these melee fixes, another update will go live making what Bungie calls minor changes to “a few chests, quests, and rewards.”

The Destiny April Update is in full swing with fans grinding the new content for better gear, while they wait for news of the large expansion this fall.
