Following the overwhelming success of Flappy Bird and reasonable success with its follow up, Swing Copters, the game’s creator Dong Nguyen is back again with another free to play mobile game. In Ninja Spinki Challenges!!, which was created alongside publisher Obokaid’em Games, players control a little ninja character (Spinki) through a handful of mini-games - swiping, dashing and slashing in an effort to survive. Some of these challenges include avoiding a bouncing object, throwing shurikens, and another in which Spinki must jump to avoid pieces of rolling fruit. There are six different game types and players can unlock ’endless’ modes of each of them.

Ninja Spinki Challenges!! is similar to Flappy Bird and Swing Copters in that players will want to keep on playing to best all of its small, yet difficult challenges. However, the fact that the new game features several different game types to master rather than just one could mean that players find themselves more frustrated with Ninja Spinki Challenges!! than addicted to it.

Though, this may be for the best. Flappy Bird was so addictive that Nguyen removed the game from app stores, although the developer did bring it back some months later. The game’s initial removal saw the developer receive death threats, and it also led to people selling smartphones with Flappy Bird installed for ridiculous prices, with people willing to pay plenty of dollars just to get their Flappy Bird fix.

This was no doubt rather stressful for Nguyen - and when the game wasn’t available it also frustrated those who wanted to get their hands on the free to play title but couldn’t (not without paying, anyway). Few could hardly blame the developer for wanting to avoid that going forward so fingers crossed that Ninja Spinki Challenges!! isn’t mired by the same or similar controversies now that it has been released.

Ninja Spinki Challenges!! is now available on iOS and Android.
