Thanks to iOS engineer Neil Sardesai, the world-famous game has made a comeback in a form that nobody could have ever imagined… as an interactive macOS notification.

Play Flappy Bird in Your Notification Center

Neil Sardesai is the first developer to convert a full-sized game into an interactive notification. As a result, he got a fully playable clone of the original version of the game. And since Sardesai shrank the game and made it just 28KB, it fits into your Mac’s notification center.

In one of the recent iOS engineer’s tweets, he showed exactly how the Flappy Bird notification game looks in action. It looks just like the original version of Flappy Bird and is just as easy to play.

The only difference is that instead of tapping on the phone’s screen, you need to click with your mouse to make the bird fly. And yes, it’s just as frustrating as it always was.

It’s quite an original idea to use the notification’s interactive capabilities that came with macOS Big Sur for game development. Maybe even Apple didn’t have it in mind when adding the new user notifications UI framework to this operating system update.

Could Doom Be the Next macOS Notification?

When Sardesai was asked about whether it’s possible to convert Doom into a Mac notification, he answered that it’s worth a try. So, who knows, maybe the next interactive Mac notification created by this developer will be the ultra-popular shooter!
