The proclamation was discussed and passed during a city council meeting on Monday night.

It was brought forward by Vice Mayor and City Council Member Austin Gravley in honor of the former president.

“Excited to honor former President Donald J Trump Monday night,” Gravley posted on Facebook ahead of the City Council meeting.

Mayor Jon Albert’s proclamation states that the tribute should be given for Trump because he received 76 percent of the votes in Frostproof during November’s presidential election.

Trump is also praised by Frostproof officials for setting record low unemployment figures during his time in office and “engaging in no new wars…while bringing many troops home” as president.

State Representative Anthony Sabatini was one of those who backed the idea.

“Good to be in the City of Frostproof tonight to speak in favor of a Proclamation declaring this week ‘Donald Trump Week,’” Sabatini posted on Facebook while sharing the proclamation. “First city in the nation to do this!”

The City of Frostproof has been contacted for further comment.

In January, Sabatini also announced he will be supporting an amendment to rename a 481-mile highway in Florida after the 45th president.

“This legislative session I will be sponsoring an amendment to rename U.S. Highway 27 as the ‘President Donald J. Trump Highway,’” Sabatini tweeted.

“Looking forward to working on this important designation honoring one of the greatest presidents in American history.”

Highway 27 runs nearly the entire length of Florida from Miami to Tallahassee.

Speaking to far-right website the Gateway Pundit, Sabatini said renaming the highway would be a fitting tribute to Trump, who will now live in his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after leaving the White House.

“Highway 27 travels the heartland of real Florida—which is perfect because President Trump best embodies the values of the American heartland,” Sabatini said. “This is a fitting designation for the first Floridian president.”

In the article, Gateway Pundit, which is known to have published conspiracy theories and other falsehoods, claimed that Democrats were “sure to have a spastic meltdown” over Sabatini’s amendment.

Sabatini shared the Gateway Pundit article on Twitter with the caption “MAGA.”

Trump is set for a Senate trial after becoming the first president in history to be impeached twice. Trump is accused of inciting the deadly insurrection at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. on January 6.
