According to the DeLand police department in Florida, a robber approached the Florida Credit Union in DeLand on February 2. The robber was assumed to be a man due to their voice, and they approached the teller armed with a hammer, disguising their face with a Sonic the Hedgehog mask. After demanding money from the bank teller, another bank employee from the Florida Credit Union confronted the Sonic bandit, which led to a swift exit from the robber before police could arrive on the scene.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt during the incident and the robber reportedly did not escape with any cash. After arriving on the scene, the police searched for the mask-wearing criminal, though he was unsurprisingly far too fast for the police to catch, so no arrest has been made as of yet. DeLand police are currently asking for any people in the area who may have seen the speedy Sonic the Hedgehog robber in the local vicinity.

Surprisingly, this is not the first case of a bank robber using gaming-related merchandise to support their crimes. In Mexico, a man managed to rob a bank using an NES Zapper. The sci-fi looking toy was wrapped in duct tape to make it look less like a harmless piece of plastic and more like a deadly weapon. This zapper-wielding robber was quickly tracked down and arrested though, so anyone fearful of being threatened with a toy from the 1990s can rest easy.

Florida man news stories have been a source of entertainment for many since the trend was noticed of how many ridiculous events begin with the words “Florida man.” Many strange gaming news stories have also featured the mysterious Florida men, such as an occasion that saw a Florida man threaten people with a sword over the power to his games console being turned off, while another Florida man was arrested for stealing Pokemon cards from a Walmart.
