Hillsborough County School Board officials announced in a Wednesday press conference that they believe they have found the remnants of Ridgewood Cemetery, a mid-20th century “pauper’s burial ground” under King High School. The school district used a company called GeoView to map and scan areas of the campus after being alerted to the possibility that the cemetery might be located underneath. “The company found clear evidence of burials. Ground penetrating radar found approximately 145 coffins buried three to five feet deep,” said school board chair Tamara Shamburger at the press conference....

Jaime Javier Amogueafonseca, 32, was detained by officers from the Tampa Police Department over the weekend and charged with aggravated child abuse after they responded to a home at about 1:30 a.m. The boy, who remains unidentified, is 14 years old, Tampa’s NBC affiliate, WFLA, reported. Michael Lewis, suspected of stealing a vehicle, allegedly hid under the mattress of a Florida residence in a bid to escape Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies on Monday. Justice, a police dog with the Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, detected the 59-year-old suspect almost immediately. “Cpl. The man, Brian Duffy, 40, was identified by Pinellas Park County court documents obtained by The Smoking Gun. He was arrested on August 7 and charged with battery after an argument broke out with a 7-Eleven employee and Duffy hit a Slurpee out of an employee’s hand, the documents said. “The video surveillance shows the victim grabbing the cup off the counter,” the court documents show. “The defendant is seen on camera…handing the cup full of Slurpee drink towards the victim while in the victim’s hand....

Michael Ford II, 45, of Wauchula, became the focus of an investigation on June 27 after deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report regarding a dead body. The remains were found by an employee of a local phosphate mining company Mosaic, Fox 13 reported. The gator, which was spotted close to the body, was 11 feet 10 inches and weighed 450 pounds, the Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC) said at the time....
